The Need
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) policy focuses greater attention on the achievement of English proficiency. In lieu of encouraging bilingual instruction, the law increases the demand for specialized instruction to quickly transition students out of Limited English Proficient (LEP) status. ELL students now represent 13% of total U.S. enrollment. The majority of these children come from homes where English is not the primary language.

The Challenge
In response to Federal and State mandates, schools must set rigorous standards for addressing the needs of ELL students. While many ELL students make adequate progress towards proficiency, those who have difficulty making the transition require additional attention. This places an increased demand on classroom teachers to address the needs of ELL students and raises the costs of education for the school.

The Solution
MindPlay offers educators working with English Language Learners a three-fold solution. Reading Analysis and Prescription System (RAPS) will identify specific gaps in your students reading skills providing a springboard for speech and reading growth. My Reading Coach will directly instruct to fill those gaps teaching students proper sound pronunciation, articulation and reading. This targeted instruction builds confidence in speaking the English language and students translate these new skills to reading. Fluent Reading Trainer (FLRT) will help students enjoy reading by dramatically improving their reading rate as they become confident speaking and reading English.

"I would highly recommend My Reading Coach for any school with struggling readers, and expecially those who are English Language Learners or those enrolled in special education programs.  In less than 4 months, our students showed these gains on the assessemts build into the program: ESL: 57 students - 42.3% improvement with 15 hours on task; SpEd/Low Readers: 54 students - 35.4% improvement with 15 hours on task."
