Who can use the program?

Anyone with basic reading skills who can operate a computer and a mouse.


What is different about FLRT?

FLRT relies upon scrolling technology to improve eye tracking which enables you to improve reading speed.  The story library includes decodable stories and text size is determines by screen size.


For what reading levels is this program appropriate?

The initial release of FLRT is appropriate for readers from ages 6 to 10. Higher level stories are currently being evaluated.


Is there a version of FLRT for the Macintosh®?

FLRT will be available for the Macintosh in April 2007.


Will it work for Special Needs child?

Yes. If your child already has basic reading skills, FLRT will work well to improve his/her reading speed and comprehension.


Will it work for English Language Learners?

Yes. If your child already has basic reading skills in English, FLRT will work well to improve his/her reading speed and comprehension.


Does the program initially test the reader?

No, the program allows the reader to set an initial reading rate then automatically adjusts the rate and reading level based on success with each passage.


Is the program difficult to use?

No, the instructions displayed on the screens are clear and self-explanatory.


If my child has reading difficulties, will the program correct them?

FLRT is a practice program that will help improve fluency - speed and comprehension accuracy. It will not address basic reading skills. My Reading Coach is better suited to address these gaps.


Is this program self-sufficient or do I need additional resources?

It depends upon the reader’s skill level. For those with basic reading and comprehension skills, FLRT will improve both comprehension and reading speed.


What if there is a technical problem with the program?

Technical Support is available between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. MST, Monday through Friday. MindPlay is closed on all major holidays. Call (800) 221-7911. Technical Support is free for the first year.


Will the program be boring?

No, most people will find FLRT to be challenging and interesting. As reading speed and fluency improve, readers will enjoy reading.
